The following message is from Dr. Paul Crites who will speak at the Men of Honor Rally in Northern California, January 2012.
I began my ministry over thirty years ago when I preached for the first time in my little home Church in western Maryland. I am grateful for the wisdom & mentorship that was invested in my life permitting me to pioneer over 40 new churches & pastor for many years, travel & minister to 26 nations, establish & lead two Christian Universities, write & publish books, lead a network of ministers & churches and counsel & consult with international business & nation builders.
My precious wife, LeAnne and I are thankful to God for the positive people of faith He has placed in our lives who understand purpose, vision & destiny. Each October I invest time in seeking the Lord to hear His voice for the upcoming year. During this time I received a strong word to “speak to men” of our nation because “our men are in trouble.”
My research was quick to confirm the troubling state of men:
• In 1970, men earned 60% of all college degrees. By 2006 it was 43%; women now surpass men in college degrees by almost three to two.
•Women’s earnings grew 44% in real dollars from 1970 to 2007, compared with 6% growth for men. In 1950, 5% of men at the prime working age were unemployed. As of last year, 20% were not working, the highest ever recorded.
The warning signs for men go beyond the wallet. Men are more distant from family or their children than they have ever been.
•The out of wedlock birth rate is more than 40%. In 1960 only 11% of children lived apart from their fathers. In 2010 that number is reported at 27%, however many believe it to be much higher of this “fatherless generation.”
•A snap shot of the local congregation reveals that only 30% of men reported attending church regularly in 2010 according to Gallup.
•Did you know that 18 to 34 year old men spend more time playing video games a day than 12 to 17 year old boys?
Women graduate college, find good jobs while men do not work, get married nor raise or lead families. This has led some to ask: do we even need men?

Our society has rightly celebrated the ascension of women but there is a serious cultural & spiritual problem requiring leadership & a voice to this generation of men.
And that’s why I plan to lead a new men’s movement kicking off in January 2012.
A generation of angry and confused young men attempt to find outlet in sports and military service but when the coach or drill sergeant barks, “what kind of man are you?” the young man is uncertain what manhood really is in the 21st century.
A bold and clear response is required to this culture that sends confusing signals to young men through television, video games and music. They are certainly not going to receive it through a society that is agnostic about what it wants men to be and has rejected the biblical mandate of manhood for political correctness and gender neutrality.
Dr. Edwin Louis Cole said it best: “male by birth, man by choice.”
There is no greater moment in history than this moment for a New Man Nation© to be established returning our focus and future on the virtues of our founding fathers. Each generation of men has an obligation to teach the younger generation the clear understanding of self respect and manhood. Teaching men responsibility in relationships and not treating women as toys to be discarded when things get complicated.
This new assignment is a great undertaking and can not be realized without everyone’s help. I’m certain you know a man that can be empowered through a biblical understanding of godly character, rallying men together and structured mentoring. I believe the maturity deficit of this generation of men can be overcome.
Here’s how we can work together.
▪ Pray for God’s wisdom for the leaders of this new men’s movement.
▪ Work with us and attend a Regional Men’s Kick Off Event.
Thank you for standing with me at this powerful moment in time as I communicate a bold and biblical message that it’s time for men to man up.

William Bennett shares his concern for manhood and a literature-based solution to build up men for the modern era.
The video below was not created by us, but shows the amazing topography and trails that are available for mountain biking in our area. For those who are wondering, “What is the State of Jefferson?”, it is the mythical state made up of southern Oregon and Northern California. Oil up your bike chains and fill up your tires…the mountain is calling!!!
I went to the movie, Courageous, with a bunch of guys in October 2011. This is a “must see” movie for anybody who values the concept of men as the leaders of their families. The movie is a depiction of the final verses of the Old Testament. Malachi 4:5-6 5 “See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”
When fathers are utterly involved in the children’s and families’ lives, children grow up blessed. Crime loses its allure, drug usage virtually disappears, court houses and jail houses are empty. There is peace in the land as God rules the way things ought to be.

My good bud, Kevin Rickey, and I hiked out to the Marble Rim. Good thing I brought a pair of gloves because there was snow and it was COLD! We hiked 15 miles that day with a 2,500 ft. rise and drop. It was a great day to enjoy creation, scope out nature and the places that will be our classroom for Brave Heart.
There are beautiful and exciting experience coming for students of Brave Heart.
We hiked right over the top of a cave structure that is the 2nd largest in North America. It is directly under the peak on the left of the photo on the left. It entails a web of 26 miles of cave tunnels that have never been fully mapped…in fact, that process is going on right now! The photo on the left is the Marble Rim; the geological phenomenon of North America.
I am at about 6,000 ft. elevation in this photo. A hiker we met this day had seen 20 bears this week. Every single one of them skeddadled as bears in this county are very afraid of people.
Below: The black and white peak just left of center
is called “Black Marble.”
“I lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD.”
This and many other verses will come to mind and be read as we walk through this area this autumn.
So far we have had one rafting trip thus summer for Brave Heart West Coast board members. The Scott River was full and running fiercely! Went over the spill next to the fish ladders….very awesome. Looking forward to more rafting before the river is too low.
